Hosting, Virtual Servers

Dear Lazyweb,

I need to virtualize some servers into someone else's datacenter. What I want is a Linux instance, where I have root, that I can install some software on to. I need a gig or more of memory and about 8gigs of diskspace. Static IP address required. DNS hosting would be excellent.

Do you know of a reasonable service? If so, please tell me!

I would probably go with Linode (http://linode.com) as they have an excellent control panel for pretty much all you'd like. They provide DNS servers for your domains as well. I've been with them since January and they have been really good. The have an irc channel with loads of knowledgeable people at irc.oftc.net #linode. If they aren't what you are looking for, you can also take a look at slicehost.com. I haven't used their service but I have heard good things about it.

I looked at them, but found that their prices were a bit high once you needed memory.

John Blanford at Peakserv in Bellingham, WA does VPS hosting for $50. You get root, 1GB ram, 10 GB of space, static IP, and he can do DNS hosting as well. The server is physically located in Fibercloud, in Bellingham -- email: johnb@peakserv.com -- tell him Jakob referred ya ;-)

They're very reliable as well, I host many of my websites on there, and its also the home to linuxfestnorthwest.org and blug.org

I'm sure John would love to make you a deal too, since you're always up at the fest =D

We use serverbeach...... you can get pretty beefy boxes too.... for the most part they're pretty good. I'd give them a 9/10......

We've been with them for like 2 years now.
