Universal Plug Adapters

After buying an assortment of travel adapters over the years I think I
have finally found the perfect one:

This adapter has worked out really well. The little european prongs
are adjustable so it always fits without pushing (and it fits well
enough to not fall out). It does everything I have ever seen and most
importantly in this regard it does the UK style outlets without being
all big and stuff (aka it packs flat).

Awesome little toy. Well worth the cash.

I used to consider it the same, but then I had a spate of trouble while visiting South Africa (I grew up there). The power adapter for my new laptop really doesn't like not being grounded. Angry noises beyond what a transformer should. Combine with the fact that I've never seen an adapter for South African plugins to North American (or anything else) that includes the ground pin, and you're in trouble.

Additional trouble was that South Africa has two sets of plug styles. The small EU two-pin style, as well a circular variant of the UK 3-pin plugs, that the UK plugs don't fit into the sockets for. If you're somewhere that only has the 3-pin outlets, you need a 3to2 adapter :-(.

I'm not bothering with ground for mine.

So the APC I mentioned did not work in South Africa, or are you talking about a different adapter?

The APC mentioned only has fittings for the 2-prong South Africa plug, not the 3-prong.
