From the train conductor:

"Folks, we will be going a bit slow through this section of track.
Recyclers have stolen the signaling cable for the next few miles."

Copper is that valuable? Wow. And here I remember selling an entire
copper boiler for scrap when I was 17 for $60 bucks at the metal
recyclers.

Haven't you been watching the local news. Quite a few local construction companies (many doing contract work for the government) have been hit to the tune of thousands and thousands of dollars of copper wire thefts. Nasty business, that.

I like the story where the crooks take a part the live wires and electrocute themselves. Out of the gene pool!
