"Folks, we will be going a bit slow through this section of track.
Recyclers have stolen the signaling cable for the next few miles."

Copper is that valuable? Wow. And here I remember selling an entire
copper boiler for scrap when I was 17 for $60 bucks at the metal
recyclers.

Haven't you been watching the local news. Quite a few local construction companies (many doing contract work for the government) have been hit to the tune of thousands and thousands of dollars of copper wire thefts. Nasty business, that.

Copper theft is a HUGE problem down here, as well. This past weekend some of them stole new piping from a synagogue that was in the process of getting itself back together after the federal flood, and flooded the whole place again.

Several of my friends who have had to repair and replumb their houses have had their pipes stolen as well.

I see bums on Vancouver SkyTrain with piles and rolls of coper wire they probably steal from nearby construction all the time...
